While bathrooms in India have previously been only functional modes of sanitation, today’s contemporary trends show that the end users are interested in luxury aspects. Consequently, Indian designers are investing more time in inspired theme based concepts to design a lifestyle experience in bathrooms.
The objective of my project was to make a single piece water closet and a range of table top bowls/wash basins with all the standard dimensions as mentioned in BIS. The targeted users were the middle income group of India. The WC aspired to integrate a water savvy tank and vacuum generated flushing system followed by western vacuum flushing system.
Applying contemporary interpretation for the middle income group of India, I designed a single piece water-closet taking into account trends & need of contemporary market as well as consumers. For this I have taken the sea world (particularly sea shells) as an inspiration to reflect organic forms which have compactness, smoothness, shine and to evoke the feeling of nature.
The table top bowls/wash basins and the WC complement each other as part of one range but also enhance the space and facilitate all the sanitation activities within the compact spaces because of their thoughtfully decided sizes. I have taken the natural flowers (lotus) & water animal fish as an inspiration to make a range of table top which will more related to aqua-world, freshness and giving the feeling of wellbeing.
This was my first experience in real-world settings and it has been an intense process of learning about myself through the design journey. |
