Having an infotainment system in a car is more of a norm than luxury. The gadget has become a feature-rich entertainment and information solution to fulfill the needs of a tech-savvy driver. The feature list includes phone, reverse camera, Bluetooth, vehicle information and entertainment features. The high level of human machine interaction calls for a system design in accordance with usability principles.
My diploma project brief was to look at the Infotainment system for a SUV. The overall design language of the system had to project the character of the vehicle. It had to provide simple and easy-to-remember interaction workflows for the user addressing the needs of a user whose primary work was driving. The infotainment application had to use a clear and direct visual language for the ease of communication to the user. In short, the project looked at achieving the goal of a perfect example of an in-vehicle usable system which maintained a balance between design needs and implementation feasibility. |
