The objective of this project was to design and develop a range of lamps and small accessories using the sabai grass craft of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, for the hospitality and retail sectors, and thus to contribute to a sustainable lifestyle for the sabai grass artisans. Traditionally, sabai grass craft is restricted in its application; it is used in making small-scale products such as baskets and coasters. Hence, to facilitate a slow transition for the artisans into the acceptance of new and unconventional designs, multiple workshops were conducted. Bamboo and mild steel frames were made for the lamps and were fitted with light fixtures.
