The brief for my diploma project was to provide an online channel which would help make design education accessible to everyone in India. I had to digitally document and effectively teach the unique course to prospective learners at NID.

The target audience for this project included learners from academic as well as industrial backgrounds.
I began the project with a literature survey on online education, education in India and design education. This was followed by a pilot user survey on teachers as well as their students. This led to a slight change in the design brief, following which expert interviews, user study and persona development were undertaken.

The outlines for the courseware levels 1, 2 and 3 and their wireframes were then designed. Also, the system of delivery of the ‘course’ and ‘certification’ was planned for. The final prototype was on paper and the interactions were explained through a Flash movie. The E kalpa initiative will seed this in its mega-plan, when they execute and code it.

Designing educa¬tional content is an enormous task, given the heterogeneity of population who will be able to access it on the internet, unlike the controlled setting in a college classroom. The complexity of the subject matter i.e. Systems Thinking also had to be considered during the compilation of courseware to make it easier for learners. This process of studying education led me to gain invaluable insights into my own studies at NID. This has been a great learning experience.
