My project involved finding a game-based learning solution for the employees of ICICI Bank, to help them increase their efficiency in the process of retail outward remittances, which is an important aspect of international banking. A lapse on the part of a banker in the scrutiny of a remittance request would result in financial and legal repercussions for the bank.
As a designer, I focused primarily on turning the subject into a 15-20 minute game experience, which would entice the player to continue till he attained a high score. While doing so, he would become more proficient in scrutinizing a chunk of information. Hence, his response to a remittance request would turn from a random one into a ‘structurally organized’ endeavour.
The educational and training background required for such a subject-specific game was intensive. Summarizing it in a format which could be understood by someone with a background outside of banking was essential. I came up with a range of concepts such as a busy beehive, Egyptian tombs, a battlefield, a symphony master, a zero-gravity scenario for astronauts, etc. My final concept idea was Crystal Quest, in which the player accesses a map showing the position of a voyager, and must choose the asteroid he has to travel to. He has to use the minimum volume of crystals fuel, to get a high score. I presented a fully functional version of the game, including the basic animations, sounds and so on. After finishing the game, the player would be capable of identifying all absolute errors in a retail outward remittance request and also detect frauds.
By working with a game-based learning team, I realized the importance of team effort for the successful application of any multidimensional system. I also learnt the value of modular design.
