The objective of this research project was to examine the scope for a new drinking water unit in schools.

First, I had to learn about the existing drinking water facility in schools, the awareness among students, parents, teachers and school staff on issues of health and hygiene. I also had to understand their habits and practices of consuming drinking water. Then, I mapped the drinking water systems in schools. In order to achieve the research objectives, the research design was developed, the components of which were type of study, selection and development of data collection techniques, sampling, data collection, data processing and data analysis. The primary research was conducted in Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Kolkata.

Based on the conclusions drawn from the research, the scope for a new drinking water unit in schools was established and target markets were identified. The various modes of sales for the identified target markets were recommended to the client.

This project gave me an opportunity to undertake design research and learn a lot through that process. What I learnt about managing copious data and applying appropriate research methodology at various stages of the project will help me in future endeavours.
