The project objective was to design a functionality which enables user to create and execute multi step sequences, allows users to automate complex and tedious tasks in Acrobat, resulting in reducing user’s time and effort. So, the vision of the Acrobat team was to design, develop, and implement Acrobat 10 from a user-centered design perspective.
The goal was to use more and more functionality in Acrobat, providing easy way to access the needed features and increase the user’s dependence on Acrobat with the three tag lines of ‘Productivity, Effectiveness and Efficiency’
The project started by defining rough scope and framework. I conducted domain research simultaneously which continued across the project. I also conducted stakeholder analysis to both glean information from them to create design solutions that are appropriate to the business context as well as to gain greater acceptance of design solutions. Using the initial understanding of the initial research I built concepts to reflect the findings. Based on feedback and feasibility concerns, they were modified and improved to hone a final concept. I applied an iterative design process incorporating various methods to convert the identified tasks to Graphical User Interface.
My experience has been one of understanding and realization. One of the greatest learnings was about the complexity of defining a project. Personally I found that the process of pinning down what you want to design in a specific domain area and understanding the domain is more difficult than simply following the process and completing the design. |
