Various studies have revealed that there is an increasing dependence of small businesses to rely on their mobiles for their business dealings.
For my project, I set out to explore and design concept features for Mobile Internet Devices considering the user segment of micro entrepreneurs.
I worked on two briefs:
The systems design brief required me to design a platform that enables micro entrepreneurs to connect and collaborate remotely using portable communication devices.
The interaction design brief required me to design an interface for an internet enabled portable communication device that will enable users to collaborate with each other remotely on multimedia content in real time.
A major part of the research process consisted of an intensive qualitative user study which studied the concerns of the Indian micro entrepreneur. I undertook detailed user interviews with the help of various user study techniques focusing on specific concerns and issues regarding the travel, communication and working of the users.
Next, I developed various tools and guides during the project to facilitate acquisition and analysis of the user data. The interviews were recorded. I created various representations of this data to visualize the positioning of the MID in the present scenario where the majority of business is conducted over the phone and actual visits. HP labs chose my concept of ‘Live Update Call’ to be explored and was detailed out with the help of a storyboard. The final concept is currently copyright protected with HP Labs Bangalore and cannot be disclosed here. |
