Locomood: A Mood Based Travel Discovery Application

Travelling satisfies a latent need and triggers an emotional response that creates an element of experience. Through this project was designed, Locomood, a disruptive design innovation targeted at the consumer travel industry. The idea was to create a mood-based travel discovery and planning application that allowed users to explore, visualise, and plan their travels in a very non-traditional and intuitive way.

Locomood attempted to map the current mood and feelings of a user, and combined it with other factors such as time, money, distance, peers, and preferences to suggest the most personalised and uniquely customised travel package. Locomood offered huge scope for the entire ecosystem of new and current travellers, travel agencies, tour operators, and travel planners. It could influence millions of new travellers to take the leap and travel, and experience the joys of travel through more personalised and relevant travel recommendations.

The project covered all major areas from user research to personas and scenarios to wire framing and final prototyping. Given the novelty of this concept, the project also took a more on-ground approach to understand the market and follow a highly experimental, iterative, and prototyping-driven design approach to arrive at the final product.

Working on this project a provided a great opportunity to learn about the consumer travel industry, travel insights, users’ behaviour, and their decision making patterns. It was a great journey full of learning, exploration, iteration, and more importantly practical application of all the knowledge gained and theories studied at NID.
