The project was sponsored by Titan Industries and aimed at developing a range of leather accessories for the Spring Summer 2012 line. It focused on creating a new range of belts and wallets for men who are a part of the SEC A1 category and fall in the age group of 25–35.
The initial stage of this project involved research into the accessories market, consumer preferences, and domestic and international trends; fashion forecasts and runway reports were also extensively analysed. Subsequently, four key themes were identified based on the ideas and opinions that emerged during the brainstorming sessions; these themes were— Mystical Travelers, Retro Chic, Neo classicism, and Tribal Glamour.
Of these themes, Mystical Travelers and Retro Chic, inspired by the popular film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was chosen. Work on these themes was done as per the directions identified and these were refined according to the inputs received from the project guide and mentor. Selection of materials, defining the various styles, and sketching out the ideas and implementing them on various materials helped create the final designs; these designs were prototyped in the last stage of the project.
This project helped understand the design process that converts concepts into viable products which offer the consumers their money’s worth. It helped gain a thorough understanding of consumer behaviour in India, along with attaining familiarity with the leather industry and accessories markets in India. Apart from designing and the awareness gained about the real market scenario, valuable knowledge about communication systems in the industry, production planning, and the process of costing was acquired. |
