Synopsis
The project, executed in two phases, was undertaken in collaboration with two handloom clusters in the villages of Deversavalsa in Andhra Pradesh and Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh. The major objective of the project was to make the members of the cluster self-sufficient and independent thereby empowering the entire community with opportunities for a better livelihood.
Working with two different clusters with different objectives gave rise to a varied set of deliverables. In the first phase, an experimental workshop was conducted to design home furnishing handloom fabrics with the weavers. The second phase involved design conceptualisation and creation of a new range of cotton-silk saris with classic traditional elements.
