Synopsis

The project was pursued to understand the possibilities of design in creating better working environments by understanding the needs and goals of the stakeholders working in hazardous industries.

Research methods like contextual enquiry, activity-mapping and persona-building led to the development of a scanning device based on the concept of the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which requires the user to bring in contact the device (which acts as a reader) with the tagged equipment or hardware to be inspected. The device’s screen displays subtasks associated with the equipment list of inspection procedures. An attached wristband for hands-free work, physical buttons and a sunlight readable touch screen display make this product user-friendly and functionally purposeful.
