Synopsis
This diploma project deals with the designing of two very different spaces in two different cities – a 2-BHK service apartment in Mumbai and a 4-star hotel in Visakhapatnam. Both projects were art-inclined in nature and involved studying various indigenous crafts of Andhra Pradesh and transforming their essence and beauty into contextual and tangible products.
Regional symbols and motifs were translated into abstract design forms; lamps, furniture and art pieces with meticulous detailing were developed – all with intent to imbibe a visual feel of the local art and craft culture into the designed space. Furthermore, all the products were developed and produced on location involving local craftsmen, thus making the project an example of value-addition through design.
