Synopsis
Old weaving techniques combined with design intervention was the chosen means of developing an innovative range of punja durries and hand-knotted pile carpets for the international market.
Yarns were developed using unconventional natural fibres such as flax, ramie, jute, seagrass, etc. to create new textures. Apart from these, new construction techniques were used that could add to the existing design sensibilities and lend a unique look to the products – simply woven yet classically presented. New designs were also ideated for a collection of Indo-Tibetan carpets using the technique of Persian knots.
