Synopsis
The project focused primarily on developing contemporary and commercially viable woven textiles, exploring various yarns, weaving techniques, textures, concepts and looks.
The body of work generated was divided into four distinct collections, out of which two were for the domestic market and two for the Japanese market. The former were deep rooted in the Indian traditional textiles – Bhagalpuri saris of Bihar and natural-dyed stoles woven in fine cotton Khadi and jewel-toned silk dupattas. The latter were based on Wabi-Sabi, which represents a comprehensive Japanese view of aesthetics that celebrate the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete.
