Synopsis
Designing a range of modern rugs and carpets for international clients was the main objective of the project. A texture library was developed to gain deeper insights into traditional punja durries weaving techniques, colours, yarns, motifs and patterns.
Emerging innovative ideas inspired from the rhythmic patterns of the ploughed field, colour compositions of Leonid Afremov’s paintings and traditional patchwork patterns of Karnataka were translated into three different collections of carpets and pile rugs. Each collection used a different colour palette – from soft and subdued grey tones to earthy brown hues to vibrant rainbow colours – to suit the requirements of a varied clientele.
