Synopsis
Although expeditious technological development makes precise and mechanised products en masse, traditional handicrafts made by skilled hands and simple tools, are by virtue of their nature, unique. The motive of this project was to amalgamate these two different worlds to create a value proposition for both. Being eco-friendly, seamlessly repairable and malleable made Corian the ideal material to introduce to the traditional Indian crafts.
A cross-pollination of Corian and craft techniques like stone lattice work, ivory carving, gold and metal inlay, produced interesting results. The most commercially viable were Corian lamps with lattice work and wood fusion, an ergonomic chair made from a single mould of Corian and basic jewellery samples practised till date in only bone and ivory.
