My project was to create Tablet Monsters, an ID based on one of my own characters. While working on my main project, I was also required to work on production design for promo shoots and its graphics and packaging, as and when required. I also worked on the creation of IDs like ‘Music Monster ID’ and ‘Music in Colour ID.’
For my diploma project, I decided to develop my Tablet Monster character further and make two introductory teasers and one main ID for Channel [V]. This project depicts a mad scientist, Dr. Testtubewalla, who initially creates the Tablet Monsters to take over the world. Fortunately, the scientist has an accident and as a result, suffers from selective amnesia. He starts believing that the monsters are created to solve people’s problems. So, the IDs are sort of advertisements for his product and they are aimed at teenagers and some of their issues like pimples, pocket money, girlfriends/boyfriends, etc.
The ID has the potential to become a series as it is humorous and light-hearted and has a very simple concept. Each ID introduces a different monster, which solves a different problem. The aim of the teasers is to familiarize viewers with the concept of Tablet Monsters before they start watching the ID.
My project was character driven. It gave me an opportunity to give life to the creatures that inhabited my imagination, and put them in interesting situations where they could interact with people in the real world. My target audience comprised teenagers and youth since they form the majority of Channel [V] viewers. Working with Channel [V] gave me an exposure to different types of work, whence I gained an understanding of how a music channel functions.
