Consumer centric design
My project was to create multi sensorial languages which expressed particular moods derived from consumer research as such a research would lead to insights into what people feel, think and desire. These languages had to be developed into useable/applicable concepts for car interiors.
One of the key objectives of the project was to be able to tap into people’s desires, aspirations and attitudes and to then feed that information back into the company’s design network. To achieve this, I created a visual questionnaire that could stimulate people’s minds, urge them to think spontaneously giving less scope for reason and pragmatism in determining their response, detaching them from real life associations and experiences in order to attain reactions of the purest nature. This methodology was a fluid one; where in, quantitative as well as intuitive data was gathered to arrive at the inferences/insights.
These insights led to the formation of more detailed and researched trends that became the cues for the various design directions of the project. The creation stage included conceptualizing the various moods through mood-boards, material-boards and finally the representation of one of these moods in a format of my choice. I chose to represent it in the form of a miniature exhibition space, which would showcase the mood in the form of various elements. The model-making stage began by making a mock-up of the mood-space; followed by the execution of the final model which happened at the DC Design workshop in Chinchwad, Pune.
This project gave me the skill and freedom of a fine artist, plus a thorough understanding of the trends research subject, necessary for a lifestyle accessory design student. Both these strengths came together in a seamless fashion without the application of any conscious effort from my end.
