‘Kaanch’ is the story of an ancient craft practiced in a small town, Purdilnagar, in western Uttar Pradesh. For decades the town has harboured the unique and intrinsically beautiful craft of glass bead making. Through migratory populations and neighboring cities, the craft was brought to Purdilnagar a century ago. Several thousand families have been earning their daily bread by means of this craft. The craft has indeed been one of the major causes for development in this region. This documentary film tells the story of this once flourishing town, its trend of decline, decay and desertion.
