In today’s age of Smart Homes, the house takes care of individuals by playing their favourite song whenever they walk in or instantaneously dim the lights for a movie. These scenarios are becoming highly prevalent in the vertical of home automation; this is the future experience of control.

A number of factors contribute to achieving that level of experience, the prime contributor being the area of Universal Remote Control. Since ages, the term “control” has been associated with having a remote fixed with buttons. The challenge is to have a seamless transition from the idea of control being associated with a physical remote in which one keeps pressing a number of hard buttons, to a more subtle and enjoyable experience where controlling devices at home not only lessens the burden on the user but adds on a relaxing and soothing experience.

The final concept called, Gray Matters, involves the possibility of exploring a new level of interaction which is a combination of thoughts and gestures for controlling Smart Homes in the near future. It also includes aspects on how controlling itself can be personalised to meet every users’ need uniquely in terms of not only interaction but also in providing the right information with regard to entertainment, and a new living room experience for every user at home.

The project outcomes mainly focused on improving the set up process and developing a smart TV app which aimed at providing a personalised content and control experience to the user.
