Animation Film DesignDeforestationJharkhandKaram festivalUrbanization
Karam is a culturally rich animated narrative film that explores the vibrant tribal festival of Karam, celebrated in Jharkhand. The story follows the traditional worship of Jawa by unmarried maidens, who carry and present her to the Karam deity amidst a backdrop of rhythmic folk songs and dance sequences. Through expressive character animation and immersive environmental storytelling, the film captures the festival’s deep-rooted customs, bringing its visual and musical essence to life. Beyond the celebration, Karam delves into the impact of urbanization on indigenous traditions. Through striking visual metaphors and dynamic scene transitions, the narrative highlights the deforestation of sacred Karam trees, symbolizing the erosion of cultural heritage. The film’s art direction employs earthy palettes and authentic tribal motifs, while its fluid animation conveys the emotional weight of losing ancestral practices. Karam is a poignant blend of folklore and socio-environmental commentary, preserving an endangered legacy through the power of animation.
