This project reimagines forgotten mythical creatures from Thrissur, Kerala, bringing them to life through research, design, costume creation, and photography. It begins with an exploration of Kerala’s rich and mysterious folklore, collecting oral narratives through interviews, archival research, and literature. These stories, deeply embedded in regional culture, served as the foundation for the creative process.
The design phase transformed words into visuals, using sketching, material exploration, and sustainable costume-making techniques. Locally sourced and biodegradable materials ensured a connection to the land and heritage. Finding the right locations for photography further deepened the immersive experience, uncovering unseen landscapes tied to these myths.
The final phase integrated handmade costumes, models, and on-location photography, culminating in a visually compelling representation of Kerala’s mythical landscape. This project is relevant to visual storytelling, costume design, folklore research, sustainable art practices, and conceptual photography, offering a fresh perspective on cultural preservation through contemporary media.
