Traditional keyword-based search systems often fail to provide the intuitive, personalized experiences that today’s online shoppers expect. This frustration can lead to cart abandonment, missed sales, and lower satisfaction. This research explores the potential of Generative AI (Gen AI) to enhance the online retail search experience. Gen AI, with its ability to understand and generate human-like text, offers an opportunity to transform how users search, interact with products, and navigate e-commerce platforms. The core question of this project is: How can Gen AI be used to create more intuitive, engaging, and personalized search experiences in online retail? The goal is to examine the challenges and opportunities of integrating Gen AI into search functionality, with the ultimate aim of improving the overall shopping experience on Walmart’s e-commerce platform. This research seeks to identify how we can reimagine the e-commerce search experience by leveraging the capabilities of Gen AI.
