Symphony of Heritage: Crafting Identity Through Uniform Design for Garvi Gurjari
Artisanal IdentityCraftsmanshipCultural HeritageEmpowermentFunctional Design
This project focused on designing uniforms for Garvi Gurjari, a brand under the Gujarat State Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (GSHHDC), celebrating Gujarat's textile heritage. The aim was to create uniforms that reflected traditional Gujarati textiles while meeting the demands of modern workwear. The project began with extensive research into regional crafts, materials, weaving techniques, and color palettes, combined with field visits to Garvi stores and artisan workshops for practical insights. A size study was conducted for the staff, leading to a tailored size chart. The Lamb and Kallal method guided the analysis and prototype development, resulting in a concept inspired by UNESCO's Rani ni Vav, featuring Ajrakh block printing and an earthy color palette. The final uniforms blended cultural heritage with modern functionality and were presented to GSHHDC leaders. The project, featured in Ahmedabad Mirror, emphasized the integration of traditional crafts with contemporary design and practical, culturally resonant solutions.
