This project, Re-imagining Social Infrastructure: A Generative Research Proposal for Kochi, explores urban solutions through systems thinking. Sponsored by the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) in collaboration with the Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC), it examines the interplay between social, environmental, and urban infrastructures to foster a more connected and resilient community. Using participatory design methods, the project engages local communities and stakeholders to co-create tailored urban interventions. It aligns with sustainable development goals, emphasising resilient communities and reduced inequality. Research includes fieldwork, resident interviews, institutional collaborations, and stakeholder mapping, generating actionable insights for urban enhancement. Serving as a pilot for future system-level design initiatives, the project integrates community-driven and participatory approaches, aligning Kochi’s growth with its historical and cultural context. By establishing Kochi as a living lab for sustainable urban development, it contributes to its vision as a UNESCO Creative City of Design, ensuring inclusive, adaptable, and sustainable urban growth.
