This project explores the Malayali diaspora in Gulf countries, tracing the impact of 1970s oil boom-driven migration on Kerala’s society and economy. Unlike displacement, this migration was fueled by career prospects, leading to significant social and cultural shifts in Kerala. Through personal and shared experiences, the project examines how migration shaped economic structures, family dynamics, and identity within the Malayali community. Collecting oral histories, visual documentation, and firsthand narratives, it provides a deeper understanding of Kerala’s transnational connections. This project contributes to diaspora studies, migration history, socio-economic research, and cultural documentation, offering insights valuable to industries in heritage studies, journalism, anthropology, and policy research.
