Neo-craft - Digital print on handwoven apparels : An exploratory approach
Digital Textile PrintingHandwoven TextilesNeo CraftSustainable FashionCraft Innovation
The graduation project at Chitrika focused on exploring digital print on handwoven textiles to create an apparel collection for everyday wear. It incorporated the concept of Neo Craft, a design approach addressing socio-environmental challenges through innovative, holistic practices. The project aimed to enhance traditional handloom textiles by integrating technology to modernize visual aesthetics and broaden their appeal. Research into textile printing and digital inkjet printing technology led to hands-on experimentation with handwoven textiles and digital prints. Market and customer studies identified a gap, guiding the development of the collection. The resulting “Landscape Narrative” collection featured nature-inspired prints on handwoven casuals for women. The project emphasized the fusion of technology with craft, contributing to the growth and innovation of traditional handloom practices, ultimately empowering artisans by enhancing their livelihoods and opening new opportunities in the fashion market.
