During an internship at Khamir, a non-profit in Kutch, Gujarat, dedicated to preserving traditional crafts, the student worked on the Kala Cotton Initiative, focusing on creating sustainable clothing. The project involved designing a ready-to-wear capsule collection, "Into the Land," which combined Kutch's traditional aesthetics with contemporary design. The student collaborated with local artisans, learning about the delicate nature of Kala cotton and its hand-spun textiles, natural dyes, and traditional weaving techniques. A market study was conducted to understand both B2C and B2B models, helping address gaps in the target customer base. The collection aimed to bridge sustainability and cultural preservation, symbolizing a deep connection to Kutch's natural beauty while promoting slow fashion. The experience not only honed the student’s design and decision-making skills but also contributed to the growth of the local artisans' livelihoods, supporting Khamir’s mission of empowerment and sustainability.
