The project ‘Interpretation and Translation of Colour Next 2022’ is an attempt towards the conversion of the future forecast by 'Colour Next 2022' into products for interiors and spaces. The project sponsors, Asian Paints Ltd. have been mapping these future trends for many years, providing valuable inputs to architects and interior designers, across the country, to use the research within their practices. The same trends were not utilised by the company themselves for translating them into products, to be sold under their brand. This project brought about the opportunity to convert these trends into products, with a focus laid on lighting and furniture design. The trend forecast was converted to various conceptual directions, and translated the mood and the sentiment of the trends, into concepts that can be realised in the material culture. The outcome of the project was a lighting collection that was designed and developed by taking inspiration from pearl jewellery, influenced by a fashion-driven trend story (We/Us), which revolves around blurring the lines between masculinity and femininity. A furniture collection which was also designed using the conceptual direction of another trend story (Solo Commerce), explores a collection of versatile and multipurpose room dividers, inspired from the classic corporate cubicles, with a focus on providing functionality and the possibility of using them as WFH stations.
