The concept of developing an outdoor watch for the Indian market stemmed from identifying the demand for such a product, the potential within this watch segment, and the opportunities for Titan, a prominent global watchmaking industry player, to venture into this domain. An examination of established outdoor brands and the success of their various models aided in identifying a space where Titan could make its mark. The initial aspect arose from people’s desire to reconnect with the outdoors following the COVID-19 unlock phases. Many sought to commune with nature, add vitality, and break free from the pandemic-induced mental and physical constraints. The adventure tourism industry, which the pandemic had severely impacted, was also expected to recover and become more organized. The industry’s revival is anticipated to attract individuals aged between 27 and 41 years with health and financial stability to engage in outdoor activities.
Extensive engagement with athletes and enthusiasts was undertaken to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse outdoor enthusiast community. A workshop was meticulously designed to facilitate participants co-creating a watch tailored to their needs. Insights were gathered, and the outcomes were carefully analyzed to chart a natural progression. Emphasis was placed on identifying key parameters that define an outdoor watch and developing innovative solutions to address challenges encountered in outdoor settings. Various components of the watch were thoroughly explored to handle even the most minor practical functions that could aid users during their journeys. Concepts were generated at Titan’s Design Excellence Centre in Bangalore and tested to validate suitability across various use-case scenarios.
