This document shares the entire design process of decal development for a tableware collection in detail. This project is done for a Fine bone china tableware manufacturing company, Arta Broch Pvt. Ltd, in Vadodara. The project is about developing prints for the tableware for the company’s own brand Lazzaro which can be added to their yearly portfolio and help to grow in the international market. The project starts with an in-depth study of the company’s production process, fine bone china as a material, and the customer segment. The company deals majorly with the HoReCa sector targeting mostly the European and UAE market. On the basis of this, a project brief is developed and the study continues with the research on the Horeca sector, tableware and tableware settings, and the target market which is the European market including the research on European food culture, Gastronomy history, ingredients, and dining etiquettes.
Since the project is fully based on the decals, a thorough study was also carried out on the ceramic decal printing process which included details of types of ceramic decals available, materials used for printing, the screen printing process, application, and most important keyline measuring techniques. Intense market research was also done on the international and Indian ceramic tableware manufacturing brands to get an idea of what is new, trending, and selling in the market and why? Initial projects are also done to briefly understand the decal printing process carried out in the company. As a result of the insights gathered from the research, a re-defined brief is constructed on the basis of which two design concepts were taken forward, one is the print development for a luxury tableware setting and the other for an everyday use purpose. As an outcome, three collections were designed and brought into the production line.
