This project aims to design a split air conditioner unit with a unique value proposition and usability features that can be manufactured within 5 years of the project’s commencement. The goal was to improve the user experience and interaction with the split air conditioner indoor unit while adhering to the brand’s global design language for visual aesthetics. Despite the fact that a large portion of the research work was conducted online due to the pandemic, this project makes a sincere effort to get to the core of the issues and bring the project as close to production as possible. The people included in the discussion for this project were designers, sales managers, on-floor sales representatives, installation and maintenance personnel, and, most importantly, long-term and short-term users, with a broad range of perspectives and suggestions as per their experiences with the product.
All thoughts aligned and focused on the one goal of creating a future-forward air conditioner with enhanced usability. It is an introduction to relevant theories, trend forecasts, and consumer and user research amalgamated into a design process.
