The Graduation Project with BookMyShow circles around how as a Product Designer (Digital Product Designer & Researcher in the UX Domain) in the making, The student can contribute to revamping the discovery experience of the Live Entertainment vertical and thus, drive the conversions and sales, whilst allowing a perception shift to happen within the existing customers. The perception shift here would mean shifting the perception of BookMyShow from being only a movie-ticketing platform to now a wholesome entertainment platform that offers more than a movie-ticketing facility. The project involves extensive user research ranging from researching the user psychology/behavior science, learning the difference between product-centric interventions versus marketing-based interventions in the digital product domain, studying the user flows and users' mental models on the BookMyShow app basis varied contexts related to the discovery related behaviors on its Live Entertainment vertical, and then intense analysis of both the psychology and product features and eventually, structuring of that analysis in a way that it gives tangible intervention points. Alongside the design-centric research, informed decision-making exercises amidst cross-functional teams also happened, allowing one to understand the industry and its constraints, and also grasp the wisdom of how even a small valid intervention can make the end customer’s life easier, and when scaled can lead to a ripple effect in conversions throughout the customer population spread all across. Student Bhanvee Gupta has found the entire journey of ideating and executing this project exciting and fulfilling.
