The collection began with the concept of expressing life on a saree. Life may be viewed as a combination of memories and regular habits. The student believes that when it comes to memories, we tend to have vivid pictures in our heads. Our everyday actions form our habits, which may be represented by data footprints and through data art. This collection is inspired by the same data art and memories. This is a symbolic portrayal of life patterns on a collection of sarees.
The student’s graduation project was sponsored by Titan Company Limited (TANEIRA). Taneria is a Tata women’s clothes sub-brand. The brand name is synonymous with fine craftsmanship, exclusive design, and exceptional product quality. The business offers a wide range of handcrafted and handmade items such as sarees, lehengas, stoles, yardages, and suit materials.

The given brief was to create a collection of sarees (25-30 sarees) with India’s Nutan Phulia-Jamdani (Krishnanagar – Kolkata) craft cluster that is in synergy with current aesthetics and market demands, as well as thorough documentation of the same. “There is a rainbow after a storm” and the colour black depicts the building storm that we all must pass through in order to see the glorious way ahead, as represented by the rainbow and its brilliant colours. The motifs were created with the help of the craft cluster’s weavers and Jamdani weaving techniques. Saree layouts were created with the user in mind while also providing something fresh to the market.

The process gave the student the creative liberty of accessing the expansive knowledge of different cultures and traditions. The layouts of sarees were explored while keeping the collection’s language and customer in mind. The combination of a modern approach, sophisticated designs along with detailing resulted in a new aesthetic.
