Two of Unilever’s Oral Care brands, Closeup and Signal, were being considered as part of a system called Packaging Architecture. The Packaging Architecture aims to provide an informed set of guidelines when designing future packaging, enabling brand and design teams to move quickly through a decision-making process considering trends, semiotics and packaging technologies. The architecture is a blueprint of packaging choices and technologies for multiple variables like markets, segments, platforms, brands and packaging sizes, costing etc. The project entails creating a consolidated comprehensive, systematic interface for all brands and platforms under the oral care category to drive simplification and standardisation through architecture (selection guidelines) to fuel business growth eventually, get a competitive advantage, and drive sustainability.
The project culminated in analysing human-product interactions and their conversion into product packaging attributes, structuring data to create optimised system pathways, and designing a digital webpage interface with the inferences.
