One of the main problems faced by us while traveling in the Indian Railway is food. The quality, hygiene, delivery and serving of the food are some of the main difficulties faced by the passengers. Being the 4th largest Railway system in the world and also having almost 1.24 million employees, this is a major drawback for the Indian Railway. This problem is faced all over the nation, especially in the sleeper class section of the train mainly where the environment is very unhygienic. The kitchen is extremely unhygienic and is poorly ventilated and the vegetables brought from the market are rotten. The purpose is to research and comprehend the existing challenges that Indian railway catering is experiencing with pantry cars, galley equipment, bars, and carts, and to come up with a viable solution like easy and quick mobility for staff, more organised serving, hygiene etc. This project was an attempt at improving the catering experience in the Indian Railway through redesigning the galley trolley used in the premium express trains based on the current catering system followed by the IR.
