The aim of this project was to design a modular wardrobe system that facilitates efficient apparel storage, aesthetic display of accessories and accommodates incorporation with the home intelligence system, for the luxury segment. The main focus is to provide the user, an enhanced comfortable wardrobe experience. Through focused conversations and interviews with stakeholders ranging from interior designers & architects to end users, various insights about wardrobe experience were gained and analysed.

The second stage was deriving project requirements, understanding market scope and upcoming trends in wardrobe experiences. A competitive market study and user surveys were conducted to find the scope of design and target group. The study from the research phase helped in generating multiple design directions for the final outcome. The final criteria at the end was to generate a design which suits the Indian context that can be customized for any appropriate space with simple assembly methods and can stimulate the client’s aesthetic sense and fulfil all functional requirements.

Various design ideas were explored through rigorous brainstorming and scrutiny. All the finalized features were accommodated in these concepts, while not hindering the wardrobe experience. Many concepts on integrating the wardrobe to the home intelligence system through IoT were also explored with frequent discussions with the client. From the insights gained till this point of time, aluminium extrusion process was decided to be the main manufacturing process for the modules of wardrobe due to its durability, versatility and the multitude of luxury finishes available for the material.
