This project is an attempt to collaborate with craftsmen in the state of Kerala. It aims to engage ceramics with traditional craft material, open doors for material integration, and expand the product range in the urban market. The craft of screw pine weaving is slowly dying, and the project is a way to create awareness about it.
The stories of artisans, their experiences, the craftsmen, and their skillset played a massive role in the design process of this project.
The products are made using traditional craft techniques representing both materials identity and are more relevant for today’s customers. This project is also the first step towards future collaborations with ceramic material and various other crafts. The idea is to expand product ranges with screw-pine and other crafts of Kerala and participate in more collaborative events exploring the potential for such socially engaging products.
