There is constant frustration in society due to insecurities, injustice, intolerance and this system fails to address the issues at core. Through one of my projects at NID, she got closer to these answers. She figured that learning has an enormous impact on quality of life. she wished to explore more to understand the situation to contribute. Luckily she got a chance to work with “Kiwings‘’ - a company that provides learning solutions to corporations. Kiwings wanted to widen their learning solutions for social welfare. We started the process with pilot research.
It started with understanding the concept of learning thoroughly. It was found that social emotional learnings play a vital role in creating a balanced and harmonious society. These learnings have a major impact if imparted at a young age. The brief was to inculcate SEL in children. Research started with understanding child development, influence, motivations, learning and implementation of SEL. This was achieved through secondary research, interviews (experts) and performing activities with children. Through insights, it was found that the age group of 7-12 years is preferred to impart SEL. Some findings were their affinity towards cooperation and autonomy, they start introspecting on actions, and feel how others might feel. They enjoy playing. It was found that board games help them focus more than physical activities.
To understand the level, multiple board games were studied based on purpose and age group. As an outcome, a cooperative board game was designed where the players will roleplay and do activities that build SEL in them as they play. It will be played with elders who can guide them. The game mock-up was created and tested where the children could learn, enjoy and replay.
