The graduation project was undertaken by the student for the 'SPUN' brand of Welspun India Ltd.(Mumbai). SPUN is a home textile brand based in Mumbai, with its manufacturing plant located in Anjar, district Kutch of Gujarat. The brief of this project was to design three collections for the domestic online market under the brand SPUN, keeping in mind the vision and mission of the brand. Focusing on the contemporary look of the final product using traditional Indian arts and crafts techniques.
The first collection, 'Resourceful', takes its inspiration from one of the key directions for the SS 22 textile forecast. It is a coordinated collection of cushions with an emphasis on reinterpreting woven-grid checks designs into patchwork and embroidered checks. Resourcefully embracing the qualities of natural materials and handmade processes, it focuses on minimalism and making better with less for a more respectful and sustainable future.
The second collection 'Enthral', takes its inspiration from captivating florals and elements such as leaf folds, weed-like structures, stems of untamed foliage. This collection attempts to offer a fresh and bright collection of coordinated cushions retaining the essence of SPUN’S design language. The theme of this collection emphasizes on offering a sensory approach by creating a welcoming and comforting space to spend time in.
The third collection 'AAINA', is a handcrafted jewellery collection inspired by the traditional mural craft of Kutch known as “Lipan Kaam”. Various communities in Kutch do mud-relief work. They adorn the inner walls of their homes with decorative mirror work. “AAINA” collection explores this traditional craft of Kutch in a contemporary context. Taking geometrical shapes into consideration with mirror work for handcrafted jewellery. The word 'Aaina' emphasizes on the reflection of the identity of the traditional craft of Kutch through handcrafted jewellery.
