Hannah Bathool took up the challenging work presented to her by
Huemen Design Studio for her graduation project.
Huemen is an independent design agency that works for Harman by bringing
together some of the world’s greatest problem solvers, strategists, thinkers, researchers
and designers.
When the pandemic hit the world in early 2020, the staff had to be dispersed and
were enforced to work from home. This led to an increase in the collaboration gap
resulting in disjointed experiences. It is now the need of the hour to have a ‘Design
System’ for multiple teams to efficiently collaborate to build meaningful, scalable
and consistent experiences in a shorter time.
A Design System is a series of components that can be reused in various
combinations. A design system can help with reducing design debt, speeding up the
design process, and building awareness and brand accountability across various
teams.
The project brief was to design and build a comprehensive design system for a global design studio in
order to improve innovation, elevate quality, accelerate the pace of delivery and
standardize design outcomes. At the end of the internship period, an open-source website with a design system that contains pattern libraries and
usage guidelines that are accessible and easy to use for multiple design-led roles had to be produced, and was done with great success.
