This project explores the use of AR for guiding users to operate the controls on their home appliances. The settings on home appliances with many buttons, dials, and controls are often vague to understand for a user who has just bought a new appliance. Mainly because a multitude of features can be accessed through these controls, and there are multiple ways of using a button – like press, press & hold, press multiple times, etc., making it hard for the user to guess how to use a feature. Elaborate and detailed instructions in the user manual take time to read, and online results aren’t specific to the user’s model. As a result, users tend to limit themselves to using only the basic features, resulting in lowered customer satisfaction. This project explored to design AR-enabled user guidance experience, which simplifies appliance usage through AR instruction overlays, enabling easy appliance usage.
