GIF (Global Integrated fulfillment) is an existing application that is used by Walmart store associates to perform fulfillment activities like Picking, Staging, Dispensing, Packing, etc.
The whole journey of Picking, Staging, and Dispensing associates is studied to find the friction points in the GIF user experience. Several pain points are mapped and in turn, opportunity areas for intervention are derived.
The opportunity to create ‘Picking/Dispensing as a service’ is taken ahead and the ‘Stride Picking’ application is created. It is a platform for anyone (Customer/3P Picker/SPARK drivers or any individual) who wants to earn money by doing a side gig. They can quickly be onboarded and do the Order Fulfillment activities to complete the customer orders from Walmart.com.
If the user is using the application for the first time, it suggests they complete the mandatory training so that they can familiarize themselves with the processes. They need to go to the location inside the store shown in a Map view/List view to pick the items. Just scan the QR code and put it inside the tote kept in the Pick cart. If any product is missing they can substitute it with a customer or GIF-suggested item and can talk to the customer in real-time for any approval or changes in substitutions.
Stride Picking solves the problem of resource crunch in the stores by crowd-sourcing the fulfillment activities and is also a perfect platform for individual side gigs.
