The project aimed at developing a unique game-within-a-game puzzle platformer from an early prototype to a polished release on early access platforms. Game-within-a-game is an interesting genre in virtual reality games. The goal with TV Magic was to build a puzzle with replay value. The project was developed over four cycles wherein an iterative design process was followed to improve the game after each cycle. The prototype of the game was made during the 2020 edition of the annual Nordic Game Jam, where it won the 'New Perspectives' award. It was then made into a VR game during a seven-day jam which received a positive reception. The team then developed it into an early release on early access channels such as SideQuest and itch.io to gather direct player feedback and simulate a real release, featuring one new mechanic and ten more levels. This release received a 4.5/5 star rating on SideQuest, with a conversion rate of 24%.
