This project examined the relationship between news production and consumption in India today. It analysed how misinformation spreads, why misinformation spreads in India, why foreign methodologies to curb misinformation not work in India, and what are the conditions that increase information disorder in India. Strategies were developed to validate the hypothesis through surveys and testing. Recommendations were made to tackle the existing problem in the future. The growing dependency on digital media has overwhelmed people with a barrage of information; this, in turn, has reduced the vectors of credibility and accountability in information systems due to the high volume of content. The study investigates the ways to understand and reason the cause and effect of such existing systems.
