The project aims at making printing and other surface design techniques in studio ceramics more popular. Even though India has an emerging studio pottery scene, not many (in fact only very few) work on printing surfaces in the ceramic medium. The project aims at making the process and its learning accessible to the potters/studios.
The design research for the project would help in understanding different methods of printing being practiced around the globe. Exploring these methods and holding workshops would aid in understanding the possibilities and challenges in setting up a printing scenario within a studio setup. The compilation of all the learning can lead to a manual that can be used by any ceramic enthusiast. The manual aims to introduce various transfer print methods to studio potters or ceramic enthusiasts for them to take it forward according to their choice - mass production in their studio units - or as a personal expression in their work. A small collection of products can be developed for demonstrating the application of the technique and its relevance for a specific user's aesthetic sensibility and needs.
