The project aims at designing a range of seating for different travel classes for Indian Railway coaches. The direction is working on research and finalizing various concepts and ideas providing solutions to the problems faced during rail travel in India.
The seating arrangement and distribution may be different in terms of class, but it should be comfortable, convenient & safe for any passenger traveling by train. The seat materials may differ between the classes but should feel seamless in terms of its thickness, pattern and styling. It must be durable and in parallel, require only minimal maintenance & repair; improving the competitiveness of long distance train travel over short distances through enhanced aesthetics, features and comforts. Overall enhancing - feel of space, comfort, hygiene and security.
The Design Application of the project provides an immersive 3D, actual scale tangible model of the train’s coaches, seating arrangement, exterior and interior, elements, objects with applied color, material and textures etc. The design process involves development of an actual scale LHB Chair Car Coach in order to understand in detail the necessary changes in design development and intervention for interior and seating for the users.
