This project charts a discursive journey from folklore to filmmaking. Starting at Kotgarh Illaka and meandering through various ideas to the origin myth of Chaturmukh Devta, it culminates into a short film called Bali. It is also a reclamation of identity and a personal manifesto of messy sensemaking and loose ends to unravel in the future. The student hopes that this film ignites an interest to engage with a culture that is on the verge of perishing, that it can set the momentum to the questioning of self-perception for a region, here, Himachal Pradesh, which is ever so consumed with a gaze: of an outsider, of a tourist, of the other.
