The project was completed over 6 month with the House of Masaba, Mumbai. During this period, key learnings were to understand the label’s design language, aesthetics and design process. This project provided an inside view of how the designer fashion industry in India works under certain constraints, the market and clientele that the company targets and how their needs are catered to. The project brief was to develop two collections in line with the brand’s Indo-Caribbean appeal and international image, which would later be released in multiple drops throughout the upcoming seasons. The project started with a thorough investigation of the label’s brand, its identity, market positioning, functionality and aesthetics. The past and present scenarios of HOM’s collection were analyzed for a better understanding of the requirements. This was followed by studying the current market and consumer taste. This led to the creative part of the project, where inspirations were drawn after analysing trends and the zestiest details. After this, concepts were built in line with the brand strategy. Once the conceptualisation and ideation were finalised, different explorations were done with base fabrics, silhouettes, embellishments, and surface prints. The project started with an induction collection—a fashion design collection of blouses, tunics and sarees which was absorbed into the A/W 2019-20 and Festive 2019 collections. The following collection involved both fashion and textile print design which was proposed as the project evolved and was accepted and approved. The designs from this collection were later released as Pret 2020, festive 2020 and in a collaborative cosmetic collection launch by HOM and Nykaa.
